How to inventory skincare you already own

Save every open bottle and every backup into Beauty Board. Search by brand or job before you buy another serum.

A skincare inventory is a list of what is open, what is waiting, and what already failed. It is not a routine you copied from someone else. Save the bottles you already own into Beauty Board, mark which ones are in use, and search that catalogue before another serum joins the queue.

Open, backup, and abandoned are three different piles

The cabinet looks like one shelf of white tubes. It is usually three piles wearing the same labels.

Open. In the routine now. These belong on Morning or Evening, in the order you actually apply them.

Backup. Unopened, and you would use them when the open one ends. One backup of a daily cleanser is sensible. Three is a shop.

Abandoned. Opened, ignored, still sitting there. These are the ones you repurchase by accident because you forgot they existed.

An inventory that does not separate those three will tell you that you "have vitamin C" when you have two unopened and one you hated. Stop buying skincare you already own is the aisle habit. This is the shelf work that makes the aisle habit possible.

Save the bottle, not the ingredient

"Vitamin C" is not a record. The brand plus the product name is. Two serums can share an ingredient and disagree in texture, scent, and whether you would use them again. Paste the shop link, or add the tube by hand with a photo of the label. Put the size on the record if there is more than one.

Do the open bottles first. Then the cupboard. Then the travel minis, which count as products and are easy to forget. Keep every beauty product you own in one place is the full house method. Skin is the room that pays back fastest, because the duplicates are expensive.

One Skin list, slotted by job

A list with Cleanse / Treat / Moisturise / Protect is enough. Put the open products in those sections in the order you use them. Backups can sit under the job they will replace, marked as backups, not as a second routine.

You do not need a column for every acid. If two treatments do the same job, the inventory should make that obvious so you can finish one. If a product has turned, it leaves, following when to throw out makeup and skincare. Beauty Board does not date the bottle for you. Your nose and the texture still decide.

Search the job before you shop

When a new serum looks necessary, search your Skin list for that job, not for that brand. If a treatment is already open, you do not need a second. If a backup is already waiting, you need patience, not a basket. If the last one is on empties as "not again," you need a different formula, and the note is there so you do not buy the same bottle in new packaging.

Inventory the open shelf tonight. Name each bottle. The next time the cabinet feels empty, you will be able to check whether it actually is.
